Yet Another Healthcare Misconception

In this article posted on ABC.com, you have nurses trying to further their bullshit cause by once again, lying to the public. To summarize, they attempt to use Dick Cheney's poor heart to draw parallels to those who are uninsured. They claim that without Cheney's terrific health insurance, he would have died long ago. How about giving some credit where credit is due? How about giving props to the greatest healthcare system in the world? This system that allows for illegal immigrants and the destitute to receive nothing less than the finest care in the world. I have seen the poorest of people in the world, people with social security numbers so fake, they have the wrong number of digits, receive nothing less then than the best products medical device companies make. My grandfather served his country proudly, and worked his entire life for a single company. He was as American as you can get. He now spends his life in a nursing home, without a single
asset to his name. The state even took his coveted Playboy subscription. And let me tell you, he is no better off than an individual that that crawled over the border 15 years ago, still speaking nothing but their native tongue. People that can't even afford a night at the movies will continue to receive the best medical products money can buy. My grandfather? He would receive whatever the VA or the facility he is resting in contracted out to the vendors. He will receive what ever products came in at the best price, the lowest price. The poor are at a disadvantage for many many things in life. But please, leave the healthcare issue alone, because it is a nightmarish quagmire of untruth. When people bring this shit up, it makes my blood boil, and people need to sift through the crap to uncover the truth.

Excellent point. The poor are taken care of in this country far better than people imagine. The media play it up like they are not getting any care, when in fact the opposite is true. Everytime I look at my pay stub and see money taken away for Medicaid I know right where it is going becuase I see these poor patients getting $30,000 life-saving devices on a daily basis, while never paying a dime for it.

I am all for helping the poor, but let me do it without coercion and confiscation of income.

So, what do you do if you're not poor, not rich, and deemed uninsurable by the insurance giants? I used to share your sentiment, until my son was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and few other diseases for good measure. Please provide your solution.

froduss,

I am very saddened by hearing of your son's life difficulties. And making these times even more difficult, is the fact you are handling these healthcare costs out of pocket. In many of my posts, I am referring to care being given to illegal immigrants at a primary level. The handling of colds, flus, broken bones, and everyday joint sprains. You are right, when care becomes complicated, and in the hands of specialists, the system quickly tightens up. There is no easy answer for your situation, and it is in times such as you are dealing with, that having a good job with solid benefits can and will mean the world.
